Basket Weaving: Sweetgrass

Pine needle & grass basketry are the oldest weaving techniques known.

Coiling grass and needles to make functional objects dates back some 9000 years, even before pottery. Today, this technique has become a beautiful art form.

Join us for this fun/hands-on class, as we stitch and coil grass and pine needles. Each basket will be unique as we learn to add embellishments, unique stitches and other “tricks” of the trade. In this fun and hands-on class participants will make one or two mini baskets and leave with materials to make another basket at home. Bring a small pair of scissors, a thimble and reading glasses if you need them for close work.
