Mittens Plain and Simple

Mary uses Susan B Anderson’s “Waiting for Winter Mittens and Fingerless Mitts” pattern which may be purchased at knitch in either children or adults sizes.

This will be an excellent introduction to knitting in the round with double points or two circulars. You will also learn the magic of gussets for thumbs in gloves, mittens or mitts.

Let your imagination run wild…stripes? Learn how to do a jogless stripe and joining yarns mid project or add a bit of Kidsilk Haze for an aura of extra warmth and soft!

 

Skills Required:

  • Knit and Purl stitch

Skills Learned:

  • Knitting in the round
  • Decreasing  and closing a tube (mitten, hat or sock) with DPN’s
  • Increasing to make a thumb gusset
  • German Twisted Cast on for extra stretch
  • How to make a really tidy 2 by 2 rib
  • Joggless Stripes (if applicable)
  • Joining yarn mid project (if applicable)
  • Weaving in ends

Supplies:

  • 100-250 yds of worsted weight yarn for adult small to xx-Large
  • US size 7 DPN’s or 2 24″ size 7 Circular Needles or size to achieve a gauge of 5 sts per inch
  • 1 sk Kidsilk Haze (optional)
